We are Official

Hi Everyone,

We are finally official in our home state of West Virginia.  In our state, we need to send a Notice of Intent to Homeschool to our home school district in order to homeschool.  Due to attending private school last year, we had to re-declare our homeschooling intentions.

So what is our homeschool going to look like…a mixture.  My daughter is taking three classes at our local community college and three classes with me.  She is taking English, Business, and History at the community college and PreCalculus, Chemistry, and Home Economics with me.  I have an engineering degree and another science degree, so PreCalc and Chem are right up my alley.  But, are they up her alley?

One thing that I have learned over the years is that my daughter and I are two different people.  I love the go go go of teaching subjects and then relaxing in my free time.  My daughter loves the go go go in her free time and then work at a steady but slower pace during school.  We are just wired differently.  Needless to say, we both need patience.  🙂

So here is what I have for each subject that I am teaching.  I have put links to the books below in case you are interested. Have a wonderful day! Laura

PreCalculus – Saxon Advanced Math

Chemistry – Discovering Design with Chemistry by Jay L Wile This is the same Jay L Wile that wrote the first edition Apologia Chemistry and Physic books. He went back and wrote a new series of books based on the lessons learned from writing the first edition.

PreCalculus – Saxon Advanced Math 2nd Edition by John H Saxon Jr.

Home Economics – Home Economics Household Skills: Becoming a daughter of purpose by Amy Maryon – I am so impressed with this book. It was everything that I was looking for in a Home Economics book. I was considering writing my own book until I ran across this one. It covers so many skills that a young woman will need in the future. Thank you Amy!
